Web Guide on Women’s History Month

February is Women’s History Month, a special time to take a look at all the ways women have changed the world we live in and to offer your students creative and courageous role models. This month Trumpet is featuring stories of women who’ve made a difference to the world—fighting for freedom, journeying to space, and protecting our Earth. Plus, we’re providing you with Web sites to support your study of women leaders for February.

  Restless Spirit
Rosa Parks: From the Back of the Bus to the Front of the Movement
  The Chimpanzees I Love
  Find Where the Wind Goes

In Restless Spirit meet groundbreaking photographer Dorothea Lange. Learn how she overcame her childhood struggles with polio and her father’s desertion of the family to become one of the most famous camera artists of all time. This beautiful book includes 60 of her striking Depression-era photos as well. Rosa Parks, featured in From the Back of the Bus to the Front of the Movement, also overcame tremendous odds to become one of the leaders of the civil rights movement. Read her compelling story in this moving new biography. Also featured in February is The Chimpanzees I Love, Jane Goodall’s own story about how she came to live with and study chimpanzees. She describes for young authors her own career path as well as her extraordinary discoveries in animal behavior. Finally, don’t miss Find Where the Wind Goes, in which Dr. Mae Jemison offers insight into her remarkable life—entering college at age 16, becoming the first woman of color in space, and more!   For some invaluable resources for celebrating Women’s History Month, be sure to check out the Web sites below!
